Beams in teh Twin bedroom - Magpie Cottage

When we inspected Magpie peak district cottages a few months ago we decided that the revealed beams in the ceiling could do with filling between the ceiling and the beam.  We felt drafts may have been coming in from the roof space. We therefore decided to fill the gaps.  When we looked at this more closely this week we decided that not only would we fill the gaps (with expanding foam)  we would also partly cover the back edge of the beam to stop dust build up etc.  This would not be detrimental to the rustic look of the beams but would make cleaning easier. As usual it took longer than expected and things went wrong. when we removing the masking tape it pulled some of the new filler out and it needed to be replaced.  The end result is fine and hopefully the room should be a little warmer.  In addition to the filling we also sugar soaped the kitchen and lounge area. It probably wasn’t strictly needed but it always seems to freshen the cottage up and it certainly doesn’t hurt.
